Cotton swabs are such a small and simple product that it is easy not to think about their impact on the environment. If you throw them away or flush them down the toilet, they end up in our oceans. In the underwater world, the plastic litter is mistaken for food, killing marine animals.
The main alternatives to plastic cotton buds are paper and bamboo cotton buds. Both alternatives are better than plastic. Bamboo sticks, however, are more environmentally friendly than paper cotton buds, which are made of wood. The raw bamboo stick requires fewer raw materials and is more robust. Paper is easily susceptible to water and bends easily. Bamboo, on the other hand, is free from these problems.
